LANCE A. GILDNER is an equity partner in the Dayton office of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP. He received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law. He specializes in tax law with a primary focus on tax controversy. With almost 22 years in practice as a tax attorney and an Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) certification as a Federal Tax Specialist, Mr. Gildner has developed a breadth of knowledge and experience dealing with federal and state tax issues for partnerships, limited liability companies, corporations, for-profit and nonprofit entities as well as individuals. Mr. Gildner also has significant experience in handling tax controversy and civil and tax litigation matters in the United States Tax Court, Federal District Courts, the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals and the Ohio Supreme Court.
He is a member of the Dayton, Ohio State and American Bar Associations, a member of the American Bar Association Taxation Section, and former chair of the Dayton Bar Association Business and Tax Law Committee. Mr. Gildner was selected for inclusion in 2012 Ohio Super Lawyers. He was also selected as 2013 “Lawyer of the Year” in Dayton for Tax Law by Best Lawyers in America.
He is a member of the Dayton, Ohio State and American Bar Associations, a member of the American Bar Association Taxation Section, and former chair of the Dayton Bar Association Business and Tax Law Committee. Defense of A Fortune 100 Company against and IRS audit adjustment in excess of $500 million.
The matter was scheduled for trial in the United States Tax Court. After months of negotiations, the matter was settled with the IRS CHief Counsel's Office.
Defense of an estate against an estate tax assessment in excess of $80 million.
This case was scheduled for trial in the United States Tax Court. Ultimately settled and when the IRS conceded and reversed the entire assessment.
Defense of a multi-million dollar off-shore employee leasing arrangment against a multi-million dollar IRS audit adjustment.
This case originated at the time the IRS and the United States Justice Department were beginning to focus on off-shore tax shelter and off-shore sham transaction arrangements.
